Plenty of carving skis only come alive in long, fast GS turns, which makes a crowded Saturday or a bumped-up afternoon feel like a chore. The Montero AX is built for skiers who love a clean, carved turn but want to change shape at will, from quick arcs between friends to longer runs down an open groomer.
Sitting between the quicker Montero AS and the longer-turning Montero AR, the AX is the mid-radius carver of the Montero line. A light poplar and beech core, Titanal with Tip and Tail Flex slots, and an All Mountain Rocker give it the planted Stöckli feel without demanding top-end speed to work. The 80 mm waist is quick edge to edge on firm snow, with enough surface to stay steady in fresh snow or heavy spring slush.
Mid-radius sidecut that's comfortable across a wide range of speeds and turn shapes
Tip and Tail Flex for smooth turn entry and a clean release at the finish
Forward widest point in the shovel so the ski grips quickly once you tip it on edge
Best for intermediate to expert skiers who spend most of their time carving groomers, want a precise and stable ski that doesn't need to be pushed hard all day, and like having the option to dip into mixed snow on the side of the trail.
General Specs
Core: All Mountain Light Core - mostly poplar with narrow beech stringers for a light, lively flex that still holds steady at speed.
Construction: Sandwich construction with full Polywall sidewalls for impact resistance and smooth power transfer.
Reinforcements: Titanal with Tip and Tail Flex, two S-shaped slots that soften the tip and tail for easier turn initiation.
Rocker Profile: Rocker / Camber / Rocker - All Mountain Rocker with about 50 mm of tip rise extending 250 mm into the shovel, plus tail rocker, with camber underfoot for grip.
Base: Racing Graphite sintered base for good glide and wax retention.
Waist Width: 80 mm (123 / 80 / 112 mm)
Turning Radius: 16.5 m (178 cm)
Available Lengths: 168, 173, 178 cm
Key Features
Tip and Tail Flex: Two wave-shaped slots in the Titanal reduce torsional stiffness at the ends of the ski, so turns start smoothly and the tail lets go without hooking.
All Mountain Rocker + Tail Rocker: A gentle rise in the tip and tail makes turn entry easier and keeps the ski manageable in bumps, soft snow, and heavy spring conditions.
Adaptive Contact Length (ACL): Edge contact grows as you tip the ski higher on edge, giving you an easygoing ski at low angles and full grip when you lay it over.
Full Edge Contact (FEC): A forward-set widest point in the shovel gets the edge biting quickly, adding precision without taking away the ski's nimble feel.
80 mm Waist + 16.5 m Radius (178 cm): Quick edge to edge on hardpack, with a mid-length radius that moves easily between short turns and longer arcs.
Solid Metal Edge Light: Full-thickness edges with thinner insertion tabs, saving weight without giving up grip or durability.
